Smart Thermostat Premium, Smart Thermostat Enhanced, Smart Thermostat with voice control, ecobee4, ecobee3 lite, and ecobee3
The Ecobee-Mobile Link integration lets you see the status and alerts from your home standby generator, propane tank monitor, or both on your Ecobee smart thermostat.
Read on to learn about the integration, setup, use, and troubleshooting.
About the Ecobee-Mobile Link integration
What is it?
This is a simple and helpful new feature that displays the status of your home standby generator or tank utility monitor on an Ecobee smart thermostat (Premium or Enhanced). For those with a Generac tank monitor on their propane tank, the thermostat will display the quantity of fuel remaining in the tank.
Your Ecobee thermostat will also display alerts when action is required to maintain your generator or tank monitor in good working order. The thermostat provides basic information on the issue and the dealer’s contact information (if available). This makes it easy for anyone in the home to request a service technician, even if the person with the Mobile Link app on their phone is away.
Is the feature free?
The integration aspect itself has no charge to use it. A subscription is needed, whether it is the basic free version or a paid subscription with the Mobile link for the generator (or tank utility device). Available subscription types will vary on the type of device being utilized.
What Ecobee thermostats are compatible?
The integration is now available with the following Ecobee smart thermostats: Smart Thermostat Premium, Smart Thermostat Enhanced, Smart Thermostat with voice control, ecobee4, ecobee3 lite, and ecobee3.
What Generac generators and tank monitors are compatible?
All generators and tanks supported by the Mobile Link app are compatible with the Ecobee integration.
Most backup home generators made after 2018 come with a Wi-Fi connection option pre-installed from the factory, and models made between 2008 and 2018 may be compatible with the addition of a Wi-Fi/LTE accessory.

Can I link multiple generators to one Ecobee thermostat or one generator to multiple thermostats?
The integration only allows for one Ecobee thermostat to be linked to one generator, tank monitor, or both at a time.
Can I see the generator and tank monitor status and alerts in the Ecobee app?
Not currently. However, we are always looking at ways to enhance the user experience and consider this a potential area for future improvement.
Can I see thermostat information on the Mobile Link app?
Thermostat information is not currently available through the Mobile Link App. Please refer to the Ecobee app for thermostat information.
Setting up the integration
- Open your Mobile Link app.
- Select the Add a Device icon (top right).
- Select Thermostat.
- If you can’t see the Thermostat option, ensure you have the latest version of the Mobile Link app.
- Follow the onscreen steps.
- Please note that you will need to enter your Ecobee account credentials, the same as you use for the Ecobee app.
- If your thermostat(s) is not displayed, make sure you have a compatible device (i.e., Smart Thermostat Premium, Smart Thermostat Enhanced, smart thermostat with voice control, ecobee4, ecobee3 lite, or ecobee3).
Using the integration
What Generator statuses are supported, and what do they mean??
The Ecobee-Mobile Link integration supports the following statuses:
Ready to Run: the generator is ready to run in response to a utility loss event. This is an indication that everything is good to go and that no additional action or attention is required.
Exercising: the generator is currently running for its regularly scheduled run event (running without generating power), commonly known as exercise mode.
Running: the generator is currently running and providing power to your home. This can include run events like running due to utility loss or running due to manual operation.
Warning: the generator requires attention; however, this state will not prevent the generator from running in the event of a utility loss. This can include battery charge alerts or a variety of generator alarms that should be addressed but will not prevent normal operation.
Fault: the generator is in a state that will prevent it from running in the event of a utility loss. The Fault status may be triggered by an Emergency Stop, Auxiliary Shutdown, or a variety of generator alarms that will prevent normal operation.
Connectivity issue: the generator is not connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
The following generator alerts are currently not supported:
- Maintenance reminders
- Generator set to “Off” position
What Propane Tank Monitor statuses are supported, and what do they mean?
Good: the fuel level of the monitored Propane Tank is above the level you’ve set in the Mobile Link app.
Low: the fuel level of the monitored Propane Tank is below the level you’ve set in the Mobile Link app.
Connectivity issue: the tank is not connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular network.
Please note: battery level alerts are currently not supported.
Why did I receive an alert asking me to contact my dealer?
The thermostat will suggest contacting a Generac service dealer when a generator is in a status that requires attention or when your propane tank is running low on fuel. The following states can trigger notifications:
- Generator Warning
- Generator Fault
- Generator Connectivity Issue
- Tank Low
- Tank Connectivity Issue
How do I enable or disable alerts?
On the thermostat, go to Main Menu > General > Generator status > View alert preferences and select Disabled.
How do I unlink a generator or tank monitor from my Ecobee device?
- On the Mobile Link app dashboard, select the thermostat you want to unlink
- Select Unlink from generator/tank
Keep in mind that factory resetting or unregistering an Ecobee thermostat from your account will also unlink it from the integration.
